2.8-pound meteorite crash – lands in woman’s house

October 3rd, 2021, at11:33pm, many in Canada were recently treated to a fireball lighting the night sky above a lake in Golden BC.. The sight turned spectacular against the backdrop of a soaring mountain. For a woman, however, it was nightmarish when a meteorite pierced through the roof and landed next to her. The sound of an explosive bang woke her and she felt the debris on her face. Confused, she looked around the house and found a rock neatly sitting on her pillow. The charcoal grey-coloured rock was reportedly the size of a melon.

“It’s certainly a meteorite,” said University of Western Ontario meteor physicist Peter Brown, “Everything about the story was consistent with a meteorite fall, and the fact that this bright fireball had occurred basically right at the same time made it a pretty overwhelming case.” This downpour of falling stars happens every autumn. For about a month, Orionid meteors cascade into the atmosphere, appearing as bright streaks in the sky. The light show is most intense around October 21st.

Homeowner, Ms. Hamilton considers herself lucky to have escaped the encounter without injury. “I was shaking and scared when it happened, I thought someone had jumped in or it was a gun or something. It’s almost a relief when we realized it could only have fallen out of the sky,” she stated. She also said that the harrowing experience has given her a new perspective on life – it is precious and she does not want to take it for ‘granted again’.

One never knows when a falling a star, maybe billions of years old, will fall out of the sky.
